Apple Invades $3.8 Trillion Market With iPad

It is very interesting to read how Apple is beginning to take over selling to corporations and outfitting their sales staff with iPad’s to be completely mobile while on the road. In year’s past, Microsoft and Intel owned this category.

As a Laptop and Tablet case manufacturer, it is imperative for us to stay close to market trends and demand. Mobile Edge offers multiple iPad sleeves and iPad cases to help protect that coveted sleek yet powerful device. In fact, Mobile Edge offers a full line of Tablet Cases to fit other Tablets and Ultrabooks along with Apple’s iPad.

This article was posted on Business Week and sent across the newswires from Bloomberg. To read the full article click at the bottom of the story.

(Bloomberg) — Apple Inc., without much effort on its part, is making rapid headway in selling to corporations.

After years of being the also-ran to Microsoft Corp. in the workplace, Apple has seen its iPad become a standard business tool. According to an IDG Connect survey, 51 percent of managers with iPads say they “always” use the device at work, and another 40 percent sometimes do. Seventy-nine percent of the respondents use the iPad for business when outside the office.

Even as Amazon.com Inc.’s Kindle Fire and other tablets play catch-up in the consumer market, the iPad faces little competition among corporations such as financial services and pharmaceutical firms. Apple’s iPhone, meanwhile, is the top- selling smartphone, forcing businesses to accommodate workers who use it. That has helped set the stage for Apple’s Mac computer to make its own inroads in the corporate world.

“We haven’t seen a single pharma deploy on anything but the iPad,” said Matt Wallach, co-founder of Veeva Systems Inc., a Pleasanton, California-based maker of sales software for drug companies. “I’ve seen a lot of devices come and go over the years. Nothing touches the speed of adoption of the iPad.”

Microsoft and Intel Corp. have dominated the office- technology market for three decades, accounting for almost all the personal computers on workers’ desks. The seeds for the “Wintel” hegemony were planted in 1981, when International Business Machines Corp. tapped the two companies to help create its first PC. That fueled an information-technology industry that now generates $3.8 trillion a year, according to research firm Gartner Inc.

PC Makers Embracing Ultrabooks

Ultrabooks are popping up everywhere. Most all PC manufacturers are coming up with their own signature design. But at the end of the day, they all seem to be following suit to Apple’s sleek form factor. The MacBook Air was the first to arrive on the market which was the thinnest Ultrabook on the market. Now PC manufacturers are trying to play catch up with their own designs.

Mobile Edge offers a full line of Ultrabook sleeves, briefcases, messenger bags backpacks and portfolios. All designed to protect that new sleek Ultrabook.

Here is a brief clip from a recent New York Times article posted about Ultrabooks after the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. To read the full article click on the link below.

By BRIAN X. CHEN, New York Times Technology Editor
Helping to drive Apple’s growth is its MacBook Air, a laptop computer that measures less than an inch thick and weighs under three pounds. In late 2010, Apple reduced the base price of the Air to $1,000, down from its original $1,800 price tag.

So what did the PC makers introduce last week here at the International Consumer Electronics Show? Ultrabooks, thin laptop computers built with a new Intel low-power chip and solid-state storage that replaces the bulkier mechanical hard drive.

Intel had about a dozen Ultrabooks on display in its booth from manufacturers including Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, LG and Asus. And Intel, which holds the Ultrabook trademark, expects 70 more notebook designs will arrive in 2012, according to Anand Lakshmanan, Intel’s Ultrabook product manager.

Most of the Ultrabooks cost upward of $900, though Intel wants to work with manufacturers to bring the average price down to $700, Mr. Lakshmanan said.
Some Ultrabooks are aiming to outdo the Air, if not on price then on abilities. Dell’s XPS 13 is a $1,000 laptop with an aluminum shell and a 13-inch screen; it weighs 2.99 pounds and measures less than an inch thick. Acer’s S5 Ultrabook, which does not yet have a price, weighs less than three pounds and measures 0.59 of an inch at its thickest point, making it even thinner than the MacBook Air, which is 0.67 of an inch at its thickest point.

What makes a Mobile Edge laptop bag TSA compliant?

If you have ever wondered what makes a laptop case Checkpoint Friendly, then you have come to the right place. Here is a brief overview of the guidelines the TSA has in place, and how Mobile Edge was one of the first laptop case manufacturers to produce and have TSA compliant laptop bags to market.

In March 2008, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced plans to implement new security procedures that would allow travelers to pass through airport security checkpoints without having to remove their laptops from their cases. Simultaneously, the TSA issued a request to laptop bag manufacturers to create “Checkpoint Friendly” laptop bags to help speed up security lines, allowing passengers to get to their departure gates in a timely manner. These new cases help shorten wait times for more than 250 million passengers that travel annually in the U.S.

TSA gave specific guidelines they required for each laptop bag to comply with in order to be TSA compliant or Checkpoint Friendly. The laptop compartment must be independent and clear of any other gadgets, cords, metal zippers, etc. TSA screeners must have a clear unobstructed view of the laptop itself. As long as these strict requirements are met, the new designed laptop bags would be cleared for use at all U.S. airports. If laptop bags do not meet these specific guidelines that will not be considered Checkpoint Friendly and the traveler will have to remove their laptop or Ultrabook from their case.

Mobile Edge was among the first manufacturers to offer Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bags in the marketplace. Their ScanFast™ Collection of Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Cases exceeds all TSA guidelines to be Checkpoint Friendly. In fact, the Design Team at Mobile Edge took the TSA requirements one step further and made the padded computer compartment see through with large writing for TSA agents to easily read, “Checkpoint Friendly.” Business travelers sent feedback to Mobile Edge announcing how easy their trip was going though security checkpoints thanks to their new ScanFast laptop case they purchased.

The TSA does not officially endorse any private company’s products, so companies cannot claim their cases are “TSA Approved.” However, companies can say their laptop cases are TSA compliant if they meet their astringent criterion.

Mobile Edge leads the Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bag category by offering 14 different styles of TSA compliant laptop cases designed for both men and women. Mobile Edge is known for their stylish women’s laptop cases and now offers six different styles of Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Cases as part of their ScanFast for Her Collection. All Mobile Edge Laptop Bags come with a Lifetime Warranty.

Women’s Tablet Briefcase reviewed in Macworld

By Lauren Crabbe, Macworld Technology Editor

The latest Mobile Edge Woman’s Netbook Briefcase does a good job of looking stylish enough for a young professional woman without crossing over into giant-purse territory. This bag is undeniably a briefcase, but the faux-leather-on-microfiber exterior adds a touch of femininity to an otherwise androgynous accessory.

Thanks to a reinforced bottom and thick sides, along with a padded sleeve, the bag provides considerable protection to your laptop, yet the bag is surprisingly light. Your 13-inch MacBook Air or MacBook Pro is secured by a thick, Velcro fastener, and there are plenty of pockets and straps to hold pens, chargers, notepads, and—at Mobile Edge’s insistence—lipstick. The bag includes a matching cosmetics pouch, but you can use the pouch, about the size of a MacBook’s AC adapter, for storing accessories. The bag’s hardware, which secures leather handles and a removable, adjustable, padded shoulder strap, is sturdy.

The design of the bag makes it convenient for holding—and accessing—a lot of stuff. The zipper runs all the way to the bottom of the bag on both sides, so you can fan the bag open to search for, well, a tube of lipstick. (Flaps of the bag’s cloth lining keep your stuff from falling out with the back fully open.) If you can’t quite fit all of your work inside the bag’s 4-inch-across interior, there’s also an outer pocket for documents or a magazine. The briefcase also sports small, metal feet so the bottom never gets dirty, as well as a Velcro-attached strap for sliding your bag over the handle of a rolling suitcase.

The Woman’s Netbook Briefcase has everything a professional woman might need in a briefcase. It’s simple without being too utilitarian and stylish without being too eye-catching.
